Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend a grand event in Kolkata in December, where around 1 lakh people will collectively chant the Bhagavad Gita, BJP West Bengal president Sukanta Majumdar said on Monday. News agency PTI reported that this program named ‘Ek Lakh Geeta Path’ is going to be held on December 24 at the Brigade Parade Ground.
“We have invited PM Modi to attend the event and he has accepted our invitation. One lakh people will recite the Bhagavad Gita together on that day,” the Bengal BJP president was quoted as saying by PTI.
He clarified that the event is non-political and invitations have also been extended to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Governor CV Anand Bose and other prominent personalities of the state.
However, Trinamool Congress accused the BJP of organizing the event strategically keeping in mind the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh commented, “As the Lok Sabha elections are approaching, it is quite natural that BJP leaders will visit the state more frequently. We have seen this trend before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2021 Assembly elections. But, it will yield no results”, PTI reported.
