Death toll rises to 3 after 24-year-old woman shot dead in firing in Bihar’s Lakhisarai

A 24-year-old woman, who was shot after a man opened fire in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district, died at a hospital in Patna on Tuesday, news agency PTI reported. He claimed that Durga Jha was identified. The incident took place in Punjabi Mohalla of Kabaiya police station area on Monday, when Durga’s family was going home after Chhath Puja rituals, and her two elder brothers, Chandan and Raj Nandan, were murdered. According to officials, along with Durga, her father Shashi Bhushan and her brothers’ wives Preeti and Lovely were also injured in the firing.

According to officials, the gunman, Ashish Chaudhary, lived right across the street from the family’s home.

Some Durga family members claimed that they had received threats from Chaudhary, who was “adamant on marrying Durga, which we could not agree on because he was from a lower caste.”

Speaking on the law and order situation in Bihar, former Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi said: “…the law and order situation in the state is at its worst under the leadership of CM Nitish Kumar…in 18 years And now the time has come that he should resign from his post. Be it the Samastipur incident or the Sitamarhi incident, all these are proof that the administration and CM are not able to control the crime here. ”

Earlier, Munger Range Deputy Inspector General Sanjay Kumar had said, “We are investigating the case from multiple angles. Some important clues have emerged from a notebook of Choudhary, which has been seized by the local police.”

The DIG said, “From the things written in the notebook, it appears that Durga had secretly married Choudhary a few years ago and both of them lived together for some time. There are also some photographs of them.”

Police claimed that they are searching to nab Choudhary.

“Two of his close associates have been arrested, including the person who provided him with weapons. The weapons and other evidence of the crime have been seized by the police,” PTI quoted a police officer as saying in its report.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Lakhisarai and leader of opposition in the state assembly Vijay Kumar Sinha held the administration responsible for the incident.

He alleged, “The family had been receiving threats from the attacker for several days but the police failed to take action. We fear that the administration may try to protect the real culprits, and divert the investigation in a direction that suits them.” Will suit the political masters.”
