American Varun Raj Pucha, Indian computer science student stabbed Jordan Andrade in Indiana gym, dies from injuries

 

An Indian student, who was battling for life after he was stabbed by a man in a public gym on November 5, died on Wednesday during treatment at the Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne in Valparaiso, US state of Indiana. Varun Raj Pucha, 24, was a computer science student at Valparaiso University, and was stabbed in the head by Jordan Andrade, 24, at a public gym on October 29, in an attack that authorities are still investigating. Following the incident, the attacker was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder.

“With a heavy heart we share the news of the demise of Varun Raj Pucha. Our campus community has lost one of our own, and our thoughts and prayers are with Varun’s family and friends as they mourn this devastating loss,” Valparaiso University, a private university in Valparaiso, Indiana, near Chicago, said Wednesday. said in a statement. ,

Varun was pursuing his Master’s in Computer Science and left for the US in August 2022. It was expected that he would return to his home in Khammam, Telangana after completing his course next year. According to PTI, his cousin said that his condition did not improve after the incident.

He had movement in only one side of his body and was unconscious in a hospital in Fort Wayne before his death. Some of Pucha’s relatives live in the US, while his parents and the rest of his family live in India. Pucha came to Indiana about a year ago in hopes of getting a good education.

Anil Baleboyne, a relative, was quoted as saying, “It is very difficult because no one would expect this kind of situation for their children. She had many dreams. She went through many hardships to support her family financially and emotionally. Came with dreams.”

As of Wednesday, the North American Telugu Society had raised US$90,000 for Varun’s family through GoFundMe.

Varun’s father works as a teacher in a government school in Mahabubabad district of Telangana. His parents have appealed to the Indian government to take steps to bring the body to India for cremation.
